Movement to ban Pesticides Private Property Pesticide By-laws In Canada & Other Jurisdictions

Over the last decade, Municipalities of all sizes have passed various forms of non-chemical pesticide (includes herbicides) by-laws. The largest is the City of Toronto with a population of 2.48 million and the smallest being Sainte-Paule, Québec with a population of 199. When all the current regulations restricting the use of lawn chemicals come into full effect the total number of Canadians benefiting from enhanced protection from unwanted exposure to synthetic lawn and garden pesticides will grow to 15 million or approximately 60% of Canada's population (based on 2006 Census). The figure above also includes the additional province-wide protection provided under Québec’s (world leading) Pesticide Management Code.
